University of Cincinnati Police are taking steps to curb thefts of electric scooters around campus.

On Tuesday, officers with the UCPD will hand out free locks to students at 2 p.m. at the Tangeman University Center Plaza.

All students who fill out a bicycle and scooter registration form are eligible to receive a free lock.

After students fill out the registration form, the information provided could help officers recover a stolen bike or scooter.

Police at UC said they are implementing several new methods to crack down on scooter theft amid their rise in popularity.

Those include sharing tips on social media with students and posting flyers and graphics to digital campus signage.
